We are living in the era of Artificial Intelligence.
What hasn't been said about the topic by now? The technology will surpass us, robots will replace us, and so on. But is this the truth?
We don't know. Maybe.
One thing is certain—Artificial Intelligence is here to stay and change our lives. That is not a question of if but when.
So, a better question to ask is, "What are my unique offerings, those that nobody can replicate?"
Don't get me wrong - the AI tools available today are impressive, and they will continue to improve. We must accept that AI will surpass us in many areas, and while that may be intimidating, it could also be beneficial.
It can allows us to focus on tasks that a machine cannot perform. Think about it—as teachers, we frequently communicate with our students nonverbally. A single glance is often sufficient for a student to comprehend what their teachers expect of them. We form deeply personal connections with our students, an experience that AI cannot replicate.
So, how do we secure our place? We double down on what makes us human—our creativity, our empathy, our ability to create rapport with students. When we do that, we become irreplaceable. We're not just another cog in the machine; we're the heart and soul of education.
Educators who refuse to adapt, who cling to the old ways of technical teaching, and who remain cynical might find themselves edged out. But those who embrace this novel reality will thrive.
Why? because teachers can offer not just knowledge but wisdom, not just instruction but inspiration. AI is an inevitable part of our future, it is up to us to decide if we fear it or become friends with it.
